My game will be running fine and than all of the sudden my computer will start making a clicking noise and my game will freeze.

Specs
-Pentium 4 processor
-Linksys router
-Happens when im doing missions, quests, or exploring but not usually when im in towns

There is nothing i can do once this has happened so i just try turing my computer off, from the machine not the start menu, and a message will sometimes pop up saying there is problem with newly installed software and that i might need a patch or fix.

If anyone can help that would be great...if you need more info just ask.

I think this is a matter of overheating.

You say that it only happens when action is been performed onscreen. The more action= the harder the machine works.

Try lower graphic settings, if this is not the solution, I suggest you buy a installable fan for your motherboard.

Overheating is a common cause but not the only one, having more info will probably help.

What graphics card do you have?
What driver version are you using for the graphics card?
What is the temperature of the GPU when running guildwars?
What is the make of your motherboard / chipset?

I did have the same problems while running on high graphic settings. The reason it would not of happened in town is because everything and everyone loads with the lowest graphics, to prevent additional server lag.

I solved this by reducing the graphic settings, and leaving my computer a little more time to load.

I contacted my local media centre, they told me to buy a driver fan if the problem continues. You may only need one at a price of £10, or $14, there fairly cheap.

I don't know about you, but whenever my stuff overheats it doesn't click.

Where exactly do you think the sound is coming from?

Hopefully it IS your Cd-ROM drive, but it's not likely. Most of the time clicking comes from a failing hard drive. Run a Scandisk to be sure.

Open "My Computer" and right-click on C: and choose "Properties"
Click the Tools tab then in the Error-checking section click all check boxes and reboot.

If you get errors you may need to start looking for a new hard drive.

Could also be a dodgey fan. Hope its not a hard-drive, I've had the HD click of doom before..... if it is, back up data on it ASAP.

Do what Lerxst said...doesn't sound like a heat problem to me at all. Next time it click's try to isolate the sound and let us know. Pay particuliar attention to the harddrive. If your HD is going bad that would also explain you memory problem. Your system uses a portion of your harddrive as memory (paging file). If you have a bad sector within that paging file then that may give you your memory write errors. If you can take your PC into safe mode, run chkdsk at the command prompt.
